Ace Ghanaian sports Journalist, Collins Atta Poku has revealed that former Head Coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton, was sacked after Ghana’s first game of the Afcon tournament against Cape Verde. This comes after Chris Hughton’s dismissal as Black Stars Coach following Ghana’s abysmal performances and early exit from the AFCON tournament. In a shocking revelation, Atta Poku claimed that the leaders of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had been dissatisfied with Hughton’s results as Head Coach and the game against Cape Verde was the last straw that broke camel’s back, hence, Hughton’s sacking.
He further went on to claim that it took the intervention of some members of the Ghanaian government as well as Gabby Otchere Darko to convince the GFA to allow Hughton to continue as Head coach.
According to Him, the GFA held a meeting at the premises of the team hotel in Ivory Coast for on Monday, January 15, the night Ghana suffered a defeat to Cape Verde. The meeting went on for hours and continued to the following day at dawn. A decision was arrived on which was to sack Chris Hughton but Gabby Otchere Darko and other government officials convinced the GFA to suspend its decision until after Ghana’s AFCON campaign.
Atta Poku also added that some men affiliated to GFA President Kurt Okraku almost attacked Chris Hughton after the match against Cape Verde at the team hotel. He also showed footages to back his claim on his radio sports show.
