We’ll not reduce fares and are prepared to go to jail - Drivers Alliance

The Alliance for Drivers Ghana has rejected the proposed 15% reduction in transport fares, stating they were not involved in the decision made by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).
According to the Association’s National PRO, Mr. Kweku Boateng, the decision is considered invalid since their group wasn’t consulted. He stressed that the Alliance is an independent body and cannot comply with a directive made without their input.
As a result, passengers using vehicles under the Alliance for Drivers Ghana will continue paying the current fares, with no changes.
In an interview on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Boateng reaffirmed their position, saying they are ready to face any consequences and view the announcement as irrelevant.
The group believes the fare reduction lacks merit, pointing out that although fuel prices dropped slightly by about 4% costs like insurance, ticket fees, and spare parts have either remained the same or increased.
They are calling for proper consultation with stakeholders such as the DVLA, insurance firms, and spare parts dealers before any fare cuts are made. Until then, they urge the public to disregard any claims of reduced lorry fares, and they stand firm, even if legal action is taken against them.
