“Ex-Convict Arrested in Shocking Murder of UEW Lecturer”

Police have arrested an ex-convict in connection with the shocking murder of Professor Mawuadem Koku Amedeker, a senior lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). The suspect, identified as Joshua Karry Arthur, was taken into custody at the professor’s residence, where the tragic discovery was made.

Prof. Amedeker was first reported missing on May 21, 2025, after colleagues became concerned when they were unable to contact him for several days. Upon receiving the report, police launched an investigation and proceeded to his home. There, they encountered Arthur, who claimed that the professor had travelled and left him in charge of the property.

However, Arthur’s story raised suspicions. Officers began to search the premises more thoroughly and soon noticed bloodstains, which led them to a suspicious heap of sand about 23 metres from the house. After digging through the sand, they discovered a body believed to be that of the missing professor.

Residents in the area have described Arthur as mentally unstable, adding a disturbing layer to an already tragic case. The police are currently conducting further investigations to confirm the identity of the body and establish a clear motive behind the murder. The academic community has been left shocked and mourning the sudden and violent loss of a respected educator.
