National Service Scandal: Top Officials Caught Stealing from the System!”

The National Service Authority (NSA) has found a big case of fraud in the Birim North District in Ghana’s Eastern Region. Two top officers, The District Manager and the MIS Manager have admitted they were part of a plan to steal money by paying people who were not supposed to receive National Service allowances.
The NSA said this wasn’t just a small mistake. It was a serious crime and a betrayal of the trust Ghanaians put in public workers. According to the NSA Director-General, Felix Gyamfi, these two officers created fake records to make it look like 29 people (this year) and 49 people (last year) were doing their national service when in fact, they weren’t.
Some of these people were already working full-time jobs or on paid study leave, which means they weren’t allowed to earn national service allowances. But with help from the officers, they were still signed up and paid illegally. The officers even confessed when they were shown the proof.
But this is not just happening in Birim North. The NSA says the problem is nationwide. In other places, people like teachers, nurses, customs officers, and others are secretly registering for national service just to collect extra money, even though they already get salaries from their main jobs. This is against the law and is known as “double payment.”
The NSA explained that people who are on study leave or are already employed are not allowed to receive service allowances. However, some of them worked with district officers to change their status and cheat the system. This kind of fraud is called “unlawful enrichment,” and it’s illegal.
To stop this, the NSA is putting new systems in place. They’ll compare national service records with data from the government payroll system to find anyone who is lying or receiving two salaries.
The NSA gave a warning: anyone involved must stop submitting false forms and report to their regional NSA office by May 23, 2025, or they’ll face serious punishment.
The NSA says it’s serious about ending corruption and that anyone found guilty will be fired, taken to court, and banned from working in government forever.
