Armed Robbers Gunned Down in Dramatic Asokwa Shootout

In a dramatic turn of events in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, two men suspected of attempting an armed robbery were shot and killed by police officers in the Asokwa Constituency. According to a report by TV3, the confrontation occurred during the evening in a busy commercial area, alarming many residents.

Eyewitnesses say the suspects, identified as Kwame Bempong and Kwaku Osei, stormed a local shop wielding pistols and ordered everyone to lie on the ground. “Everyone down!” one of them shouted, creating panic among customers and staff.

Unbeknownst to the robbers, the shop owner had quietly activated a silent alarm that alerted nearby police officers. Officers quickly arrived at the scene and encountered the suspects trying to flee. In their attempt to escape, the suspects allegedly fired at the officers, prompting the police to return fire. Both men were struck and later found dead in an alley close to the shop.

Paramedics who arrived confirmed the two suspects had died before medical help could reach them. Superintendent Akosua Ofori of the Asokwa District Police commended the officers for their bravery, noting that their swift action likely prevented harm to civilians.

The incident has left residents with mixed feelings. While many praised the police for their quick response, others voiced concerns over the increasing number of violent crimes in the area. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with law enforcement as investigations into the attempted robbery continue.
