Bawumia wins NPP Presidential Primaries to become new flagbearer of the party

The Electoral Commission has declared Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the winner of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) presidential primaries and officially becomes the Flagbearer of the NPP going into the 2024 General Elections. Dr. Bawumia becomes the fourth flagbearer of the NPP since its formation.

The Vice President won the Elections by a landslide victory attaining 118,210 (61.43%) of the vote cast. His arch-rival, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong obtained 71,996 (37.41%) of the votes whereas Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Hon. Francis Addai Nimoh had 1,449 (0.75%) and 781 (0.41%) respectively.

Though it was already predicted Dr. Bawumia would win by a huge margin, the number of votes Kennedy Agyapong had overwhelmed a lot of Ghanaians as he surpassed the expectations of several Ghanaians including Political experts. A number of Ghanaians commended Kennedy Agyapong for the fight he put have against the highly favoured Dr. Bawumia going into the election.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s win begins the next chapter of the NPP as they seek to win the 2024 elections and “break the 8.” To retain power for the NPP, Dr. Bawumia would have to square with John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former NPP rival Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng among other candidates.

Since Dr. Bawumia has been confirmed the winner, Ghanaians are curious to know who he is going to choose as his running mate for the 2024 general elections. We live to see.
