This situation is a big test for President John Dramani Mahama and his promise to lead with honesty and fairness. The President’s spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spoke on TV and said that this issue will not be ignored. He said that Sammy Gyamfi will be questioned and held responsible for what he did.

Sammy Gyamfi has apologized to the public. He said the money was a personal gift and that he didn’t expect it to become a public matter. But many Ghanaians aren’t buying his explanation. They believe that someone in charge of the country’s gold should be setting a better example. Giving away money like that can make it look like leaders are misusing their power or public resources.

To deal with the situation, a top advisor to the President, Julius Debrah, has called Sammy Gyamfi to the Jubilee House (the President’s office) to explain himself. What happens at that meeting might decide if Gyamfi keeps his job or not.
