Video: Black Sherif Pays Homage to Amakye Dede, Announces Iron Boy Album

On Monday, 3rd February, 2025 Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif visited Highlife legend Amakye Dede to express his deep appreciation for the inspiration he has drawn from the legendary musician over the years.

Growing up in Asante Akyem, Black Sherif recalls how Amakye Dede’s influence shaped his dreams. “We used to see his car every time we closed from school, and back then, he was such a big deal. It really inspired me a lot,” he shared. His admiration for the legend was so profound that he even referenced him in one of his songs.

In a heartwarming revelation, Black Sherif added, “The funny part is, my grandfather, Mr. Sherif, is actually related to Amakye Dede, which means I’m your grandson.”

To honor this lifelong inspiration, Black Sherif announced that his upcoming album, Iron Boy, set for release in April, is named after one of Amakye Dede’s iconic titles. He expressed his joy in visiting the legend in February, the month of love, promising to personally bring him a copy of the album and make it a tradition to visit home yearly for advice and blessings.

In response, Amakye Dede was filled with joy and admiration for Black Sherif’s humility and respect for Highlife music. In an exciting development, he also promised to share the stage with Black Sherif this year in both London and Ghana as part of his 50th-anniversary celebration in music.
