NSMQ Community Mourns Loss of Renowned Physics Consultant.

Let’s imagine someone who loved science very much especially Physics and used his love for learning to help many young people become better at it. That person was Professor Kofi Oduro-Afriyie. He was a very smart and kind man who helped make a popular high school competition in Ghana, called the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), even better.

This quiz is like a big brain game where brilliant students from various senior high schools all over Ghana compete by answering tough science and math questions.

Professor Oduro-Afriyie worked behind the scenes to help create the Physics questions. He made sure the questions were fair, clear, and matched what students were learning in school. He was like the coach of the quiz but instead of cheering from the side, he was making sure the questions were just right.

He did not just write questions he cared deeply about helping young people love science. He was always friendly and worked hard to get his job done on time. Everyone who worked with him said he made a big difference.

Later, Professor Oduro-Afriyie got an important job as the Vice Chancellor (that’s like a school’s big boss) at Wisconsin University in Kumasi,Ghana. Because this job kept him very busy, he had to stop working on the quiz. But people didn’t forget him. In fact, he was given a special award in 2018 to say “thank you” for all the great work he had done.

Sadly, he has passed away, and many people are very sad. But they are also grateful, because he helped so many students learn and love science. His work will always be remembered, and the young people he inspired will carry on his dream.

The NSMQ Team also added that, Professor Oduro-Afriyie showed us that with kindness, hard work, and a love for learning, you can truly make a difference.
