MBAPPE SETS TO EXTEND HIS CONTRACT WITH PSG DESPITE REAL MADRID’S INTENSION TO SIGN HIM NEXT SUMMER
The 24-year-old has undergone a U-turn of damascene proportions having clearly stated his intention to leave the French champions on a free in 12 months time following the expiration of his contract.
With the club initially banishing him from the first team, adamant he would not be allowed to run down his deal, the French superstar appeared to reluctantly accept the club’s stance.
As a result, Mbappe has played – and scored – in the two league fixtures he has featured in since his reintegration and is set to extend his contract at the Parc des Princes after all, according to Tuttomercatoweb’s Marco Conterio.
However, the prospective deal will include a mystery release clause for next summer that could still allow the forward to complete his dream move to Real Madrid.
Conterio reports that PSG sporting director Luis Campos was the main driving force in negotiations, with the under-fire executive in danger of losing his position if a renewal could not be agreed.
Luis Enrique’s side have recruited Mbappe’s countryman and friend – Ousmane Dembele, – to partner him in attack, while their pursuit of fellow Frenchman Randal Kolo Muani could come down to the wire as Friday’s transfer deadline looms.
The Eintracht Frankfurt striker failed to report for training on Wednesday as he tries to force through a move from a club who are demanding a fee in the region of £86million for his release.
PSG bounced back from a disappointing start to the defence of their Ligue 1 title with a 3-1 in against Lens last weekend, where Mbappe netted twice in his first start of the campaign.
