Bawumia opposed E-Levy and IMF loan- Kate Gyamfua alleges.

The National Women’s organizer for the New Patriotic Party, Kate Gyamfua, has claimed that the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia was against the introduction of the Electronic Levy (E-Levy) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout during their conception. She made this statement in an interview on Peace FM’s Morning Show, Kokrokoo on Friday, November 24, 2023.

Kate Gyamfua also added that the Minister of Communication, Ursula Owusu, together with Dr. Bawumia strongly opposed the implementation of the E-levy and seeking an IMF Bailout.

“During the meeting, only two members stood against the idea of the E-levy when it was introduced. Bawumia argued that E-levy will negatively affect the poor, who are already facing difficulties from the existing harsh economic climate. I am telling you the truth, if I am challenged by NPP members, I will still stand by what I said because that is what happened. Bawumia and Ursula fought against the implementation of the E-Levy with the reason that it won’t add any substantial value to the economy and would only impoverish Ghanaians,” she said.

Kate Gyamfua also refuted claims made by some Ghanaians that Dr. Bawumia only one the delegates election as a result of the support from President Akufo-Addo.

“People have the perception that Bawumia was voted for during the flagbearer elections because of President Akufo-Addo’s backing. I want to state categorically that such claims are false and anyone who says this is a liar. The only support from the Presidency to Dr. Bawumia’s victory is only 15%,” she added.
