Azumah Nelson Jubilates as Ibrahim Mahama gifts him Toyota Fortuner and cash

In a heartwarming gesture of appreciation and national pride, Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has honoured boxing legend Azumah Nelson with a brand-new Toyota Fortuner and a cash gift. The presentation took place on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Mr. Mahama’s office in Accra, and it served as a tribute to Azumah Nelson’s outstanding contribution to Ghana’s sporting legacy and his impact on the nation as a whole.
The visit was part of a larger courtesy call led by Sharaf Mahama, CEO of Legacy Rise Sports and son of former President John Dramani Mahama. Among the notable attendees was British-Nigerian boxing superstar Anthony Joshua, who had recently participated in the highly successful “Battle of the Beasts” event held at the Bukom Boxing Arena on June 13. Prior to their visit to Ibrahim Mahama, the group had met with former President Mahama at Jubilee House to express gratitude for his support for sports in Ghana.
Describing Azumah Nelson as “arguably Africa’s greatest boxer,” Ibrahim Mahama said the donation was meant to honour Nelson’s legendary career and his continued efforts in mentoring the next generation of boxers. Nelson, clearly moved by the gesture, expressed his deep appreciation, stating, “I only came here to support Sharaf and the sport I love, not expecting anything like this.”
Also present were sports entrepreneur Yaw Sakyi Afari, businessman Henry Quarshie, Anthony Joshua’s team members, and affiliates of Legacy Rise Sports. This act adds to Ibrahim Mahama’s growing legacy of using his influence and resources to support education, infrastructure, and sports in Ghana.
