24-Hour Economy to Start in Parliament – Bagbin Declares

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has revealed that the 24-hour economy policy will first be implemented within the Parliamentary Service, marking a significant step towards increasing productivity and addressing unemployment in Ghana. The announcement was made on Thursday, June 26, during the formal presentation of the final policy document by representatives from the Office of the President.
Bagbin explained that the decision to pilot the policy in Parliament is partly a response to growing concerns about the workload faced by parliamentary staff. This follows a recent adjustment in the House’s sitting time, which now begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m., putting additional pressure on staff to manage tasks within a shorter timeframe.
The 24-hour economy is part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s flagship campaign promises and will be rolled out nationally in phases. The government has confirmed that the official national launch of the policy will take place on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
Presidential Advisor Goosie Tanoh, who spoke during the policy presentation, described the initiative as a transformative economic strategy. According to him, the 24-hour economy is designed to create jobs and enhance productivity by promoting continuous economic activity throughout the day and night.
The policy is structured around three main pillars: transforming production, improving supply chain and market systems, and enhancing human capital. These are backed by four strategic sub-programmes:
• Grow 24, which targets modernizing agriculture,
• Make 24, focusing on boosting industrial and manufacturing development,
• Connect 24, aimed at streamlining supply chains and distribution systems,
• and Aspire 24, which seeks to promote a mindset of productivity and innovation.
By starting with Parliament and gradually expanding to other sectors, the government hopes to lay the foundation for a vibrant, round-the-clock economy that offers more opportunities for employment and national growth.
